Shifting Landscapes Film Screening: Taste of the Land

After her family was forced out of Cambodia under the Khmer Rouge when she was an infant, filmmaker Kalyanee Mam has spent much of her life finding her way back home.

As she has earned—and ultimately let go of—Western conceptions of success and achievement, Kalyanee has found herself returning again and again to the kinds of community, the ways of being and relating, that afford her a cultural, bodily, historical, and spiritual connection to the land. In Taste of the Land, we join Kalyanee in revisiting sites of personal and familial significance as she explores the many layers she has shed in growing her own sense of identity and belonging from within.

This screening will be followed by a facilitated discussion using the Engagement Guide provided by the filmmakers. Through spaces of reflection, discussion, and practice, the Guide offers ways to weave these stories with our own; to open a dialogue and share values within our community; and to cultivate a living connection with our landscape.
